About Me

About Boye

Beloved Monsters

It started with the villains. Like most kids, Christian Boye Larsen was drawn to the characters that looked the coolest — the Hydra from Hercules, Jafar as the snake, the monsters at the edges of the cartoons he loved. He was sketching from a young age and came up through graffiti, but it was watching Miami Ink as a kid that lit the fuse.

The road in wasn’t handed to him. His early mentor pushed him around, and he kept getting fired — so he taught himself. At 17–18, in his parents’ basement, Boye learned to tattoo the hard way: DVDs, YouTube, and stubbornness. What kept him going was simple. “I think it’s passion,” he says. “I really love everything about tattoos, and I feel I have to prove to people that I’m good enough.”

That childhood obsession never grew up — it grew teeth. He built his name on dark art, and after years exploring other directions, came home to it completely: “the more evil the better.” Monsters, skulls, freehand fantasy — skin turned into a living canvas of the things that used to hide under the bed.

What sets him apart is the freehand. No stencils, no printer, no shortcuts — Boye draws straight onto the skin, so every piece is shaped to the body it lives on and exists exactly once. It’s built on the shoulders of the artists who shaped him — Paul Booth, Bob Tyrell, Guy Aitchison — pushed into his own territory of surreal horror over 14+ years.

Today he’s a resident at Dropout in Copenhagen, tattoos out of Timeless Art in Roskilde, and travels for guest spots across Europe and the US — New York, New Jersey, Las Vegas. His work has been featured in Tattoo Life, and 238,000 followers watch each freehand piece come to life. As Killer Ink Tattoo put it: “each and every tattoo of his is not only full of detail, but the lines are crisp and the shading is always extremely clean.”

The dream driving all of it? That someone, anywhere in the world, sees a piece and knows instantly — that is a Christian Boye tattoo.
